Episode One Live Now!

PODCAST AMBUSH!

Needed to get something out sharpish specially in the run up to Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol, so I recorded this so I also didn't end up with a huge backlog of messages to reply to. Thus, 2 performances in panto, long journey home, then eating and instead of sleeping I started recording this. Not brilliant quality still and it goes on a bit, but here it is. It's all a bit Blue Peter really!

Letters, tweets, debates, thoughts and set up for the next episode. Almost divided into sections too!

Special thanks to @Muldwych, @RadioRassilon and @Nelle_Macbeth. See also http://doctorwhobaking.wordpress.com/ for more awesome treats.

Can you guess which word I overused and ended up editing out some examples of?

Enjoy!

The Podcast: Episode Zero - The Cake Based Pilot

It's shiny. (Hardly, it needs a buff)
It's here. (At least something is true)

Episode Zero, the pilot episode is now LIVE and ONLINE!

No idea how to get this onto iTunes, but shall investigate and try and get it up there soon.

In the meanwhile, find it below!

Hope to hear from you soon.

Twime Team: The Five Doctors

The 47th anniversary of Doctor Who and what a day it's been. Arc of Infinity earlier, The Five Doctors now. Such a long slog given that the Special Edition is 1 hour and 40 minutes long without a break, but so much fun. When I first saw this story I wasn't a huge fan of it, but I've now seen it countless times and I have a real soft spot for it now. Glad to have shared it with you all on Twitter on today of all days.

Congrats and thanks to @Nelle_Macbeth for being our host.
Visit the website for more information on it www.twimeteam.blogspot.com

More about the transcript and more Tweetamentaries as soon as I can.

Arc of Infinity Episode Two Tweetamentary Transcript

As follows for those that missed it:

Stand by for #ArcOfInfinity Episode 2 Tweetamentary for #DoctorWho47

Play NOW! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Colin Baker's revenge #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

I love how elaborate the robes they wear are, even without the collars #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Baker playing with TARDIS console. Nice foreshadowing. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Love how The Doctor doesn't drink from a glass with a curly straw. The indignity! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Love the location sound recording. Bit of a harsh jump when they go into studio but still. Nice reality. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Tegan's return! After one episode away... If memory serves. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Is that a pregnant Time Lady in the background? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

For pity's sake, start acting man! The man with Tegan really bugs me #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

I think I love the politics of Gallifrey a little too much! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

One of my bug bears: actors not finding their light. Well done Fielding, lean right out of the light. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

The Gallifrey Council scenes feel like full on theatre. I love it! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

The 5th Doctor being doing anger is lovely. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

I'm puzzled. There's a bad guy trying to use The Doctor, so to save the day, let's kill him? That makes sense. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Baker is brilliant in this. Seems Davsion has really upped his game for this. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

They've lit the TARDIS better too. Not so harsh. Is it in Power Down mode? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

The stuff with Tegan is nice, but it really slows it down. It's almost like this story is trying to be too much. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Love seeing snatches of roundels in corridors. Nice mention of Leela. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

A strip of lighting gel and a few tipex streaks proves traitourous activity? Ah, right. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

New component without a recall circuit! Nice! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Setting up plot later? Nyssa noticing weaponry in the computer room? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Castellan's office is nice and simple, but moody. Shall ignore the rumpled vinyl flooring. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Back reference to Morbius. Lovely. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Jump cut from Neg FX shot to real shot. Not sure if I like it. However Green TARDIS is cool. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Reveal of monster physically but saving back who he is. Nice tactic. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Mmm The Comfy Chairs of Rassilon. Oh, and The Ikea Lighting of Rassilon. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Baker in his plumage. Classy. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Would the guards consider marching rather than meandering? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Borusa is moustachioed. You can tell he'll be a wrong-un one day. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Termination Chamber is yet another really nice set. Cheap, simple but effective. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Could you have made finding your mark subtler Davison? lol #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Doctor's execution is how I'd want to do the transformation in Beauty and The Beast. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

What a cliffhanger? Can they get better? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

End of episode 2! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Episode 3 soon! Probably not before I join The Twime Team for their take on The Five Doctors.

Arc of Infinity Episode One Tweetamentary Transcript

To celebrate Doctor Who's 47th Birthday today, I embark upon a mammoth Tweetamentary day of watching and tweeting! Now and during the day, Arc of Infinity, later on with The Twime Team we'll be looking at The Five Doctors. Will duly post a link to the transcript of The Twime Team when it's been done, dusted and uploaded. In the mean time, here's my Tweetamentary Transcript for Episode One of Arc of Infinity.

Rod Henderson is looking forward to the #TwimeTeam later tonight but to start the day off I'll be dipping into Arc of Infinity. Hashtag #ArcOfInfinity

Just remembered my AoI dvd is signed by Cmdr Maxil AND The Doctor. EPIC WIN! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Episode 1, playing NOW! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

My Doctor. How I have missed you. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Dark shadowy Time Lord robes. Cool. Negative effect shot, REALLY cool #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

What's up with the very late 60s/early 70s fashions in The Matrix room? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Stuff behind the roundels always good. Adds an extra element to the set #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Location footage! Lovely normal looking street. Nice difference from a UK street pretending 2 b something else. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Location filming such a simple thing to do to make a story feel really different. Is Amsterdam a gimmick though? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Pre 5 Doctors TARDIS Console. Looks so blank. Nothing to do on it. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Shadow work and now POV camera work? We're being spoilt! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Love the detail of the TARDIS hatstand lying on floor to show they've been on a bumpy journey. So simple. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Really creepy time bending effects. So easily done, but quite effective. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

No! Not a possession! Though Davison falls beautifully. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Really hideous socks. Who chooses hi vis yellow socks to wear? Students apparantly. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Ergon or Myrka. Which is worse? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

The Doctor listening to a companion. I <3 <3 Doctor 5 and Nyssa #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

The special effects in this are fairly decent. Just enough to suggest. Council meeting. I want some robes! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

The Arc of Infinity is a lovely sci fi spacey name. Pity it's not done justice in this. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

COMMANDER MAXIL! My hero! So loyal, so smug, so nasty! Adore Colin Baker. Such a lovely actor. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

The recall circuit. Only used twice before. Both with The Doctor. Coincidence? I think not. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

I really like that the motto or ths story seems to be simpler the better.#ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Purple and blue helmet plumage? Classy but inpractical surely? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

What a really relaxed hotel checking in system. What's your name? Some name. How long? Meh. Ok, have keys. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Random anger outburst. If only the actor showed any build up to it. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Davison doing directional comedy. Act like he's going one way, then go another. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

When did Nyssa have the abilities of Diana Rigg? #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Possibly one of the most famous cliffhangers ever! Maxil Versus The Doctor! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Quite a large cast for episode 1 of a serial. Really nicely cast with maybe one or two exceptions. #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

Break for now given that it's half 2 in the morning! More later! #ArcOfInfinity #DoctorWho47

More later!

Format Changes...

My podcast is designed to be in support of this very blog, but I'm confusing myself. What do I want the format to be? I know I want to do episode commentaries, but quite often when I sit down to record Episode 1, I'm by myself and I don't think a solo commentary would be terribly interesting for you guys listening.

I want to try and avoid the News Podcast format. Podshock, Radio Free Skaro and the like have this covered. I'm not saying I won't touch on news events, but I don't want to make that the main feature. Other folks have that covered and I don't want to tread on people's toes. But that then begs the question, what do I fill the podcasts with when I'm not doing commentaries?

That's where I throw this open to you. What do you want to listen to?

Get in touch with me on here, on Twitter (@rod_henderson), on the Facebook Page (A Journal of Improbable Things) or email me on improbablethingspodcast@live.co.uk

Dreaming of CatBakers

Has just finished listening to Episode 12 of the Radio Rassilon podcast and despite having worked 28 hours almost solidly in one shift, I sat and listened to it as soon as I could. Love their work, and love it even more that they read my bile filled email out! Not genuine bile. To do that would require dousing my laptop in bodily fluids I'm not prepared to expel just now. Just to clarify in case it was taken the wrong way by anybody, I love the podcast and the work of Harry Medium, Leeson Fischer and the legend that is The IAmWilliam. I just thought The IAmWilliam needed to put the lads in their place!

Great podcast for light hearted Doctor Who banter, comedy, debauchery and mean emails sent in to unsuspecting hosts!

Find them on iTunes, Facebook, Twitter (@RadioRassilon) and various other places. Their Local might have seen them recently!

Slow and Steady: An Update

Slowly getting there. Bits and pieces for episode one have been recorded, bits are being edited, sections still need to be recorded, but getting there.

Doing some research into recording equipment that will be more decent than my laptop's in built thing. Had a couple suggestions, but feel free to comment or email me your own (improbablethingspodcast@live.co.uk).

Really looking forward to a big full scale Tweetamentary on the 23rd November with @Nelle_Macbeth and the gang of the Twime Team (http://twimeteam.blogspot.com/). We're looking at The Five Doctors. Love that story despite it's many flaws. Once we have completed it, I'll post a link to the transcript on Nelle's blog and then maybe if I can be bothered I'll copy it to here. Or at least, my parts of it!

Illness and Sparks

Podcast Episode 1 was due to be finished by now, but alas it has not. Work and various other things have conspired against me to prevent the completion of this new project. Also, I am ill. Nothing serious, but enough to make my voice sound different. I've even recorded an extra disclaimer thing to edit in for if my voice isn't better nearer deadline time. Plus on top of that it has been Guy Fawkes Night over here in the UK so when I've been trying to record bloody explosions have been going off outside my house, so the discalimer includes that to save me having to keep re-recording the same sentences over and over.

On top of that I'm still experimenting with editing techniques and formatting. Trying to work out what feel I want it to have. All very tricky. Will keep you posted.

JOIT: Podcast Update

Episode 1 is being recorded!

Introductory gumph and waffle mostly done, and actual commentary on a episode has started. A little odd doing this solo, but it sort of works. Story we are starting with is in light of RegenerGate or whatever it has been called (the SJA fiasco regarding the regeneration limit of Time Lords) is the Classic Who story, The Deadly Assasin, written by the legend that is Robert Holmes. Hopefully I'll remember it's written by him and talk a little about the dialogue, rather than pull the camera work apart! A cracking story and hopefully I'll find my stride somewhere before the end of the serial.

I think the way it will work is podcast Episode 1 will be Part One of the story. Episode 2 will be Part Two. This to me makes sense and seems logical. Alot of the other Doctor Who podcasts out there (and I dearly love you all) are sometimes a little ungainly, coming in at a couple of hours apiece, which, don't get me wrong, is fine as some of the 'casts are the equivalent of actual radio programming but in one sitting it's a bit much. Particularly for this, an episode commentary. It allows you to fetch another beer, more nibbles, gather cake, or more importantly nip to the loo. Thus the podcasts shouldn't last too much longer than a standard episode of Doctor Who. I hope.

Who knows. We shall see!

Let me know your thoughts!

The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith - Part One Transcript

Part One Transcript follows with some corrected spellings and grammar and shiz!

Brace yourselves! For the next little while, Twitter will go all #SJA as I do an unplanned Tweetamentary on Temptation of SJS #TemptationSJA

Here goes. A #SJA story I've not seen too! Play NOW! #TemptationSJA #SJA

It's Harry Potter! #TemptationSJA #SJA

You're not staring into time, you're staring at a green screen. #TemptationSJA #SJA

An anomoly in time. Where are the Reapers? #TemptationSJA #SJA

The Trickster! That bald faced bastard of Time! #TemptationSJA #SJA

Cool lighting on the actors faces to show the time rift and lack of #TemptationSJA #SJA

Let's shoehorn young and hip cultural references into the script. Unless Steve Wright is a villain from Classic Who #TemptationSJA #SJA

Where does the other door in Sarah Jane's attic lead to? #TemptationSJA #SJA

Is that the photograph we've never seen before until, oh wait, the last episode where they realised they hadn't seeded it? #TemptationSJA #SJA

Very unconvincing? Like your acting then? Ooh burn! lol #TemptationSJA #SJA

Mugged by your own son! #TemptationSJA #SJA

Who are they? Actors we hired to be photoshopped. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Aunt Lavinia for the win! #TemptationSJA #SJA

See? Asbo families existed back before this generation. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Careful Sarah Jane, you don't want to sonic your face off. Oh wait. You own real lipstick. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Go on Lukey Boy. Explain the Blinovitch Limitation Effect to the kids. #TemptationSJA #SJA

How did they not see The Trickster just standing there? Not even appearing. He's just standing next to them! #TemptationSJA #SJA

Who Do You Think You Are? with Sarah Jane Smith in 3D #TemptationSJA #SJA

The kid can't be Harry Potter. He's not annoying enough. Yet. There's still time. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Is there anything Clyde can't use his name to describe? Clydey sense? #TemptationSJA #SJA

Mr Smith opening/waking up never gets old. Alexander Armstrong ftw! #TemptationSJA #SJA

Clyde's script analysis. : I don't like how that sentence ended. Why? Grammar seemed fine. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Clyde forshadowing Matt Smith with a lovely mispronunciation of Graske! #TemptationSJA #SJA

Bloody hell! Sarah Jane was a massive baby! How is that possible on rationing? #TemptationSJA #SJA

Oh right, cos Luke keeps pre decimalised currency in his pocket. What's that, a hobby? #TemptationSJA #SJA

Well, it seems allowing odd stuff is in the Smith DNA. SJ's mum allows odd money. Is her dad the guy from Basil Brush? #TemptationSJA #SJA

Ewww! Luke and Sarah Jane are married! #TemptationSJA #SJA

Harry Potter Kid is really nicely sinister. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Ah ha! It's SJ's fault for single parent families. She introduced the concept in 1951! #TemptationSJA #SJA

With that degree of stalkage, what would Eddie Smith have done with Twitter? #TemptationSJA #SJA

Argh! Autons! Oh wait, stand down. Real dummies. And I don't mean Rani. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Jumanji indeed. Robin Williams just earned 2 pence then. #TemptationSJA #SJA

I like SJ's dad but her mum is a litle odd. Glad they wrote in a line about moving there to explain her accent. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Excellent location work for this story. Wonder how much work they had to do to make it look old? #TemptationSJA #SJA

It's convenient that the nearest car in the village is the one needed in the story. I want one. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Bit of a jump. Peladon and nothing until Bubbleshock? Meanie SJ! #TemptationSJA #SJA

Engine damage effect looks uncannily like someone shagging in a car, albeit briefly. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Bad Harry Potter Kid. #TemptationSJA #SJA

It's flibbly headed Graske Man! Woo! How stupid must that kid have felt thrashing about? #TemptationSJA #SJA

Awesome CGI of post apocalyptic London. Didn't realise Sarah Jane lived on Westminster Bridge however. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Is Greenford really an underground station? Why make one up? Ealing is a real place, unlike Walford. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Well, you messed that one up Sarah Jane. I would say oops, we all make mistakes, but you just destroyed my house. #TemptationSJA #SJA

Very cool 'Sontaran Experiment' type location feel to the 'Next Time' Trailer #TemptationSJA #SJA

Part 1 finished! #TemptationSJA #SJA

There you are. Part Two will be appearing on Twitter at some point in the near future.

Turn Left Transcript

What follows is a transcript of all my tweets on the episode 'Turn Left'. This does not include replies to other people, just my literal thoughts as it unfolds:

Since we've had no more votes, Turn Left gets your vote. In 10 mins we'll start (15:10) using hashtag #turnleft unsurprisingly.

#DoctorWho #TurnLeft Press Play now!

Whole planet of Chinatown. Omnomnom #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

No I don't want to buy your tat. I have to go do a reference to Planet of The Spiders #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Chan She looks like Chantho Tho. Odd that. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

You would have thought the Chancellor Flavia music would make Donna shut up #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Epic space opera coupled with a soap. Like Blake's 7 meets Brookside. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

I have a beetle rucksack. What a liberty! #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Longest most unnessasary pre credits sequence. But Billie Piper's name in the credits so, yum. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Donna had been getting good up until this point but so far she's chanelling her sketch show. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Really pleased to see the same events as before from a different perspective. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Yay! Greyhound 15! Pity he has to break the news of The Doctor's death #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Tyler's back! And this time she's not sobbing... Yet. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Does anyone know what Cliff does all day? #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Oliver Morgenstern! He was awesome. The Doctor, Martha, it's turning into the last episode of Blake's 7. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

NO! Not Sarah Jane! Anyone but her. NO! Clyde and Maria die as well? Nooooo! #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Tyler, you are so subtle. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Spose Rose adjusting the timeline won't make too much difference after all the mess so far. Love the refs. to Mr Noble. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Guinevere range of satellites. I love the ref back to The Christmas Invasion and Voyage of the Damned #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

This really should have been a special or a xmas special story. Bit too big a concept for normal series #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Bernard Cribbins is such a legend and a hero. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

RTD carrying on his US are amazingly fat storyline. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Credit to RTD, this is one of his most political stories. Handled so sensitively. And dramatically. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Wilf squaring up to UNIT. Brilliant! Donna accepting Rose will help even though she doesn't know her is great. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Torchwood sting under dialogue. Great stuff. Just Rose left now. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

This was the perfect place to put Rose. Forget her later appearance. This is perfect. Tate finally being believable. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Really nicely handled WWII references. RTDs finest hour. Cribbins at his most beautiful. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Leaving a camera on Sylvia and just letting her act is brilliant. Graeme Harper you genius. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Nice reversal of how Donna first discovered the TARDIS . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

TARDIS set looks so beautiful. I miss it so much. Hurts seeing it so unwell. Seeing it die... #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Finally, Rose Tyler does get character development. And the most difficult news she has to deliver. . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

UNIT and Torchwood joining forces to save the universe. Donna Noble, hero. Hero music and my favourite sound effect. . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Seeing someone realise that they have to die is so heart breaking. Like Pete Tyler in Father's Day . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Running. Always with the running. . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Last Chance Saloon music. Left or Right. Left or Right. . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Donna, not one of my favourite companions but it still destroys me seeing her die. . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Never have I been so pleased to see The Doctor. The Trickster's Brigade. #SJA reference ftw! #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

The Doctor's setting up the specials series! #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Bad Wolf . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

I love the Cloister Bell. Petrifies me, but I love hearing it. . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

It's the end of the Universe and for once, there's no exaggerating. It actually is. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Harriet Jones, UNIT, Torchwood and The Shadow Proclamation all in one story! RTD you did brilliantly. #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Turn Left is such a beautiful story. Tragic, dramatic, terrifying and powerful. How TV should be! #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

Really need to rewatch more NuWho. Had forgotten how brilliant that story is. . #DoctorWho #TurnLeft

That's all for now. Hope you enjoyed it. Look forward to your feedback!

Tweetamentary

There. Finally come up with a word to describe a text commentary on Twitter. Was that so difficult? Apparantly so.

Planning on doing one last Tweetamentary tomorrow (touch wood) before I run headlong into my research for recording the new feature to be added to this blog: The Journal of Improbable Things - The Podcast.

The theme has been recorded. I say recorded. I actually mean I've taken the 2010 series theme and added a voice over to it. Nifty, huh? Doesn't sound too shabby, but I'll wait to hear your feedback once the first episode has gone out. Hoping to ask the opinions of trusted and learned podcast folks. Podshock will probably be hearing from me. DWO Whocast, The Oodcast, The Eleventh Hour, Chip of Two Minute Time Lord, TMDWP will probably be on there too. All sorts! Loads more probably. Just to see whether there is any interest in what I'll be doing.

Plus, if that's not enough, I'm writing a couple of articles to submit to fanzines. Really need to just bloody well finish one of them and then I can worry about content and editing rather than try to do it as I go.

Back to work now!

Podcasting

So, from a not knowing my way around Twitter to providing my own commentary track. It's two days later and I'm still having people tweet me, speak to me or mention of Facebook about what I put. I even had someone follow a hashtag, see my tweets and follow along even though they weren't one of my followers. This is awesome. I've spoken to folks internationally who do a similar thing and want to me to join their panel for next time. Thus I am considering a new idea.

What if I were to make a podcast attached to this blog? There's this blog and then The Journal of Improbable Things Podcast.

Wouldn't want it to be a news service, so many other podcasts do such an epic job of that. I'd want it to be commentary tracks or discussions and the like. Even had someone from Australia offer to join in and Skype their part of it in, so keen on the idea they were.

It seems I've really taken a shine to this being a fanboy thing!

The Sea Devils

Wow. Finished watching and tweeting over the story. I suspect I've used up my tweet limit for this hour with how much I said. I think it was to a degree successful. If I had planned it much earlier in advance and decided what and how I wanted to do things more than just a night ago it might have run smoother.

Some discussion was prompted though. Had a few people from around the world chipping in and I'm so greatful to them. Made it feel like I was doing it for/with someone, not just me boring people. Even though they weren't watching along, most were doing it from memory, using me to remind them of images and freshen the story in their heads. Was very exciting.

Looking forward to the next time! At some point hoping to transcribe my tweets so they're all in one place cos I don't know how long Twitter holds onto them for.

Excellent story. Highly recommended.

The Votes Have Been Counted And Verified...

... And I can now reveal that Davina McCall has bugger all to do with this.

The Twitter/Facebook voting has now closed and it was decided that with an extra vote for it after time was called that The Sea Devils won the vote with 5 votes to Resurrection's 3. Was a fairly close call. No idea what would have happened if there was a tie.

Commentary thing will start at 2pm (UK time) and we'll plow on and see how far we get. Hopefully something interesting should crop up. At worst it won't work and I won't do it again!

So, join me at 2pm for Doctor Who and The Pertwee at Sea.

Been A While

As the title suggests, I've not been on here in what I think quantifies as an age. I have however not entirely abandoned the world of blogging. I have just moved, against my better judgement, into the world of micro-blogging. Yes, despite all my protestations, I signed up to Twitter.

You know what's worse?

I'm still on it, and what's more actually like it!

Find me if you like @ www.twitter.com/rod_henderson.

If you like having your time wasted.

I have found however that I get lots of news from it and I'm meeting loads of great new theatre and Doctor Who type folks. In fact, I'm trying something new this afternoon.

Following on from last week, where SFX Magazine (www.twitter.com/sfxmagazine) did a live tweet commentary on the Channel 5 screening of Spiderman 2, I'll be doing one for a Doctor Who story. A live tweet text commentary on one of the following stories:

2nd Doctor - The Mind Robber
3rd Doctor - The Sea Devils
5th Doctor - Resurrection of The Daleks
10th Doctor - The End of Time

So far the votes are fairly suggestive, but it could go either way.

Should possibly think of some things to say so I don't just end up waffling about it...

See you this afternoon!

Friday 14 May 2010

Next Time...

Coming soon:

I'll be starting a series of blogs which eventually will make up a story. It's going to be Doctor Who related, of course it will!

It will be loosly based on an RP story type thing I began on MySpace in June 2006. For copywrite reasons, I'm going to not use anything made up by the other author/s and so only use things I actually created and plot devices I invented.

Not sure where it's going to go as I haven't read it in four years!

All I know is it's coming soon and it's called...

The Talons of Time.

Torchwood Part One

What follows is a taster. I started writing a Torchwood piece I think at some point in 2008, but never did any more with it. This is literally copy and pasted. Haven't edited it at all. Hope it's half decent now.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was raining that night near The Bay. In fact it was raining so heavily that night it fully qualified to be classed as chucking it down. That being said, when was it ever not chucking it down these days? Through the rain the slap of running feet on sodden tarmac could just about be heard. Not the steady solid splash of a dedicated jogger out for one last lap of The Bay before turning in for the night, but the erratic panicked irregular thud of a flat footed person in terror. As they ran, their arms were flung wide, as if they did not care where their limbs went. The clothes he wore were not only drenched but were wet to the point of slowing him down. He ripped at his jacket, clawed at the tie around his throat, still ran. He ran down by the harbour, up past the parliament building, along outside the Millennium Centre, then doubling back, he seemed to trip and land face down in a puddle right at the foot of Roald Dahl Plaas. With a summoning up of energy that to a man in his state was nothing short of extraordinary, he began to pound on the paving stone right beneath him. He was pounding so hard, his hands began to bruise. They began to graze. They began to bleed, and soon after, the bones began to break. Finally, with a last cry into the dismal night, he stopped. He just lay there and sobbed. His blood ran from his broken hands, down into the cracks in the pavement, down the step he was on, and stopped at a pair of large leather boots. These boots were filled by a tall man looking completely nonchalant despite the heavens spilling all they could onto him and from the shining of his immaculate teeth you could tell he was American. The man still lay there bleeding and sobbing at his feet.
“Hey there!” The tall man called over the sound of rain. “You know you're letting the side down? Grown man crying and all of that”. He nudged the man with his foot. No response. “Aww, come on! You're not even trying anymore!”
The man on the floor, slowly looked up. With a great effort, he spoke, his Welsh accent struggling to be heard, “This isn't enough for you? This isn't worth your time? My very life is not enough for you?”
“Not really,” he replied, almost bored by it all. “Not when you moan about it.”
“Well...” He paused to pull himself up onto his knees. “How would you have me talk about it?”
“I'd have you thanking me for the valuable experience, the training, and I don't know, for giving you the time of day in the first place.”
“Never going to happen!”
The tall man looked down at his coat and made a half hearted attempt to brush away some of the rain soaking it. “Over your dead body, and all of that?” he asked the bleeding man, who had by now managed to stand up almost defying the man in front of him.
“Damn straight!” A definitely defiant scowl crossed his features. He paused for a moment before continuing. “If this is how you treat all the fools that decide to work for you then I'm not at all surprised at your high turnover!”
“Trying to be businesslike in the face of adversity? Now you're beginning to impress.”
“Well, I'm glad one of us is impressed.”

A New Beginning

I've always thought to myself that one day I would come back to the world of blogging, only semi believing myself. Well, look who was wrong on this occasion.

There is a reason I'm back however.

It's what the name of my blog is based on.

It's the one television programme I would watch if all others were cancelled.

It holds the Guiness World Record for being the longest running Sci-Fi drama ever and I'm so pleased and proud that it still is being made.

The reason is 'Doctor Who'

Obviously.

On the 1st January 2010, The Tenth Doctor regenerated and became The Eleventh. People aren't sure they're going to like the change or like The New Guy walking around in somebody else's Converse. I think he's going to be fantastic. The whole show will be fantastic. Always has. Always will.

The aim of this blog though isn't just to sell the show and advertise it. Trust me, it doesn't need that! It's to experiment and play around with ideas the show puts forward; things it makes me think about.

I could even post some of my story material on here.

Now wouldn't that be a good idea...

PS - The Legal Bit: 'Doctor Who', 'Torchwood', 'The Sarah Jane Adventures' and all related trademarks are the property of the BBC and not my own. The material posted on this blog however, while borrowing ideas and notions from the above is my own. No copywrite infringement is intended or implied. I am but a fan wishing he was part of the world of 'Doctor Who'.
